The next morning, we got up early and continued the house hunt together all over town. Hours later, we found a great little place within our budget, right in the heart of Panajachel.
We are next to the main tourist street, Santander, a few blocks up from lovely Lake Atitlán and in the center of everything else going on around us.
We were also just a block away from the local tortilleria (where fresh tortillas are made by hand), local market and the grocery store DF (the equivalent to Pali in Nicaragua) making shopping for food very convenient!
We were so excited to have found our ideal apartment that we ran back to the hostel, grabbed our unpacked bags (yes we were wearing the same clothes from the day before) and rushed back to our new home. The apartment is a two bedroom place with our own kitchen and bathroom (with hot water!!) for only $250/month.
We expected to pay a bit more in Guatemala, but thanks to Jonathon hunting around town for hours the day before, we knew we found the best place for the best price.
My favorite part of the apartment is the rooftop that overlooks the entire city, lake and surrounding volcanos. The picturesque scene below is filled with rusted sheet metal rooftops, chickens in their coups and colorful clothes strung up on wire blowing in the wind. Jonathon and I plan to have many evenings up there with a liter of Brahva and music after a hard days work.
We’re excited to be able to cook our own food in the kitchen as it will allow us to budget much easier and improve our cooking skills. It already feels like home to us both and we love the privacy it provides us during this time when we are developing the business in a new country.
We’re just a quick truck or boat ride across the lake to all of the surrounding towns. We are looking forward to exploring them all to see what products are being made by the Mayan people. Many exciting things to come and we’ll be updating you all along the way!
I sure do like to hear your stories. Makes me want to go back to Honduras again. Keep following your dreams.
Congratulations!!!!! Please let me know if I can help you market your bracelets. I live in Sonoma county California just north of SF. Best of luck to you1
Cool! Like an episode of international house hunters, but better.
Congratulations! Sounds like the perfect place. I am showing this post to my girls – they will love to see where you are now. Sending good vibes your way for business growth!
Thank you so much! You girls are great. We are so happy to have your support.
